Our View - Paramo Mens Alta III Jacket:The main overhaul for the 2015 Paramo Mens Alta III compared to its 12 year old predecessor is an updated design that gives the jacket a fresh, modern look with a slightly more tailored fit compared to the very generous Alta II. In comparison to many other waterproof shell jackets the weight of the Alta III (805g) is heavier than traditional shell jackets, but for this you get much improved insulation and breathability and this is a jacket that will last a long time thanks to the durable material and the fact that if it damaged it can be easily repaired.The Mens Alta III continues to employ Paramo’s unique Nikwax Analogy fabric technology, which pushes water away from the skin, whilst maintaining insulation to keep you warm and dry. When combined with the windproof outer fabric you will be fully protected against the elements. In line with other recent new Paramo jackets the Alta III includes reinforced rapid drying mesh pump liner panels in the shoulders, middle of the back to improve drainage in these key areas. The same mesh pump liner is also placed inside the upper arm vents so that they can remain open in rainy without water getting inside, which is excellent in warmer wet weather.The fit of the Mens Alta III has been optimised with fully articulated sleeves and shoulders and has a slightly longer cut to provide extra coverage and prevent the hem riding up. The fully-adjustable hood has been updated to offer an improved fit and ensure vision is maintained at all times even with googles or glasses. It can be rolled away and stored securely when not in use and the unique dual stretch adjust mechanisms retains the cord ends safely and comfortably.Highly versatile ventilation is achieved thanks to the full length two-way locking front zip, which has an internal storm flap to maximise protection when done up, but can be opened and secured when increased airflow is required. Under arm vents offer airflow without the need to open the front zip or with both open increase this further. Sleeves are easy to roll up thanks to the low bulk cuffs and can be secured with the adjustable fastener. The Paramo Mens Alta III Jacket has been designed with the wildest mountain adventures in mind and to cope with this the jacket offers exceptional carry capacity with six pockets to effectively and safely stow maps, navigation tools and other essentials.
