First of all, I am selling this saddle because my left hip just got replaced, my age is 74, and it is a little heavy (low to mid forties) for me to put up on the big boys now. In addition, I do not need it anymore for the purposes for which it was made. It is a real Cowboys working saddle, comfortable for both horse and rider.This hard seat saddle has a ground seat. The maker covers the empty space between the bars with a piece of tin called a strainer (this is what Doug Davis did). Layers of leather are then glued onto the seat (where you would sit) and each layer is shaved to create a smooth transition from your seat/butt to your thigh where it goes over the edge of the seat, which creates a pocket/dish between the pommel and the rear of the cantle. This ground seat puts you down into the seat and closer to your horse, creating a more stable seat with a lower center of gravity. The flat plate rigging is attached to the tree and when you tighten your girth you are pulling the entire saddle and tree down on the horse (not just the skirting),  giving you both a secure feeling. I have a 34" inseam so there is a lot of adjustment in the leathers. The stirrups are oversize laminated wood with a metal covering. I use them winter and summer. I was using this saddle on my cheval Canadian draft horse so the girth is not included. The dings on the seat were caused by carelessness on my part; they are what they are!  This hard seat saddle is very comfortable and is top quality!
