16 years ago, my mother-in-law came to live with us. Recently widowed, she left her house as it was, came to Oregon and said she was never going back home. We told her we would pack her house up, pack EVERYTHING, and bring here for her to sort through at her pleasure.
Her house was much like a museum, she was an avid and well known antique dealer and collector in Los Angeles in the mid to later 1900's.
We moved over 700 boxes of items from her house, along with many pieces of furniture. 1 of her pieces has been on the Antique Road Show.
I built a 7000 sq. foot building to accommodate all her collections. She never opened a box.
She died about 6 years ago, and we have just begun the process of going through the boxes ourselves.
It is an arduous process. Some items will go to concession dealers, some are given away, some things donated, some are kept and some things are offered here.
I used to write a bit of the history at the beginning of each ad, I have decided to write this, and when a bit of provenance fits, I will include this introduction. These items were collected many years ago by a very sweet and knowledgeable lady. Wish she was here to tell me about each item we offer, but, I am on my own, and will do my best to describe.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: I have been asked by many international collectors if will ship to Japan, Taiwan and other countries. If a buyer is willing to pay the extra shipping, I will ship it. What a gem! This Coleman Hot Plate Model 395 is quite the marvel. This stove was built in the 1940s. It was made in the early 40s as this model, the 395, and production halted during WW2. It was again produced for a few years after the war, ceasing in 1949. This stove is made with heavy gauge materials, built like a tank as they say. It measures approximately 2 feet wide, 17 1/2 inches front to back and about 8 inches tall.
It has been restored (by me) and I was a perfectionist on this stove. I had dreams of seeing it in a teardrop trailer set up, one that I was going to build.... some day.... but that day seems father away now than ever so here it is, the rarest Coleman stove in my collection... the Model 395. (maybe, I still have some old stoves buried in the building we call "The Abyss"). The the entire body of the stove was taken down to bare metal, no repairs were necessary to the metal as the stove was in remarkably great shape to begin with. No rust found, no cracks or breaks. A high heat resistant base coat paint was applied, then an appliance grade epoxy enamel was sprayed on both the top and bottom. The top is a very glossy black, the bottom is ivory. The epoxy surface is a very hard long lasting glossy finish, deep and lustrous.
The lid is hinged and is easily open by loosening the wing nut on the front and lifting it up. You can now access the tank storage area.
The Solodur fuel tank was not restored, as it was in fantastic shape to start with. I liked the original instruction label just the way it was. It is all original as when I acquired it. The inside of the tank is clean. To double check I swished some fuel in it today and it came out clean and clear. The pump may need a new leather or let it soak a bit in something to get it to seal. It has been a long time since this stove was lit. I have not lit it since the restoration... (it might have made a blemish!)
The tank fits inside the stove for storage
As you can see in these photos, the cast iron grills are in excellent condition, no negatives at all. I know someone will love using this stove, or just adding it to their collection as a piece of Americana, it is a very well built stove, or "Hot Plate". It has lasted for over 60 years and with proper care will last another century or 2. These do not come up on the market very often, and I have never seen another one in the condition this one is in. I am selling this stove "as is" because I have not used it in many years, and not at all since the restoration. But given all the components are in such excellent condition, there is no reason to think it will operate anything other than perfect. Just attend to the leather in the pump.
Please examine the pictures closely, as they are a very important part of my description. I have included 12 gallery photos and over a dozen more in the description itself. If you want to see something I did not show, just ask. I write as much as I can reasonably write about the piece, but visual inspection through the posted pictures are worth a thousand words.... ask any question you may have, I will do my best to answer. I can take other pictures and send them to you via Ebay messages upon request. NOTE: This is a heavy piece. If you live in a closer postal zone to me, ie; the West coast, if the shipping is lower, I can issue a partial shipping refund once the label has been processed and I know the actual cost. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shipping is for USA lower 48, all other addresses will be calculated.Because I am a returning seller to Ebay, your feedback is important to establish trust with future buyers. I would very much appreciate pos. feedback once you receive the item and are satisfied with your purchase. I will reciprocate in kind. Thanks.I started selling on Ebay when Ebay was new to the world, and was a great place to offer unique items to a broad audience. Then, the monster of greed came, and Ebay transformed into something I disliked, a lot. I quit selling using Ebay. I was a gold seller, I had 1000's of great feedbacks, a couple of negs ( I have learned some people are impossible to please). Now, I still have a 7000 sq. ft. building, filled with 100's of mystery boxes inherited from an avid antique dealer who had a great eye. SOOO, here I am again, and just relearning the "new" Ebay. The fees have risen (Ebay even takes a percentage of shipping charges!), and the marketplace has changed, but, it still offers a larger audience than I can find elsewhere.
Never know what is in the next box!
