The raised grid pattern allows wind to pass through it, giving it excellent cooling when vented underneath a waterproof - perfect for going up hill.
When you get to the top of the hill where you want to stop and enjoy the view, vents on your outer layer can be closed and the raised grid will trap layer of warm air for insulation.
