Description
Do you have one of those horses whose back invites you to throw a picnic on it? Table-top? Nothing fits - if you can get it to fit across the withers, it STILL doesn't fit across the hips? So did I. I finally got a friend to let me walk him through saddler's row at Equitana after being very clear that I would immediately buy the first nice-looking thing that actually fit him. It is a genuine Dale Chavez - purchased from a Chavez dealer, Chavez logo on silver billet holder and back skirting. 16" seat, 7" gullet, 29" skirt length (front-back). Weighs more than 50lbs. Don't be fooled by how petite this horse looks - he's 16:1 and 1500lbs in working condition. I'm 5'8" with a long leg. He's huge - the reason he's wearing a split-ear is because his forehead is so broad that no browband fits him. He takes a warmblood stallion sized halter. He can barely be fit with an XXW english saddle (with most of the flocking pulled). He is also VERY long in the back - he wears an 84" blanket. He's retired to be a pasture pet. He's earned it. So I'm offering the saddle to the next person with the same problem to solve. This is a beautiful piece of work in every way - surprisingly close-contact for something so big, and beautifully balanced. Flat seat - fits close to the horse. Very classic with basketweave tooling and copper diamond accents in the silver (I assume it's copper after looking at other work on the Chavez site - admittedly, I've never asked. It is just gaudy enough to blend beautifully with a very colorful horse like the one it's shown on - it would stand out more on a plain chestnut or palomino. Unmodified, all original. Stirrup leathers are rolled back under the stirrups, it will accomodate a very long leg (a very short leg, not so easily - anyone with less than about a 30" inseam will likely have to have the fenders modified). Tooled offside billet, latigo nearside billet. No cinches - was never outfitted with a back cinch. Mildly darkened from sun exposure but has never been oiled - brushed clean and wiped over with mild soap. I'll post more pics as I touch it up, but I thought I'd get the listing out there - I only own this saddle because my tall leggy english prospect suddenly grew up to his legs, I know very little about high-end western tack and silver. The right buyer for this saddle is going to know exactly what they want to see and know. I also have the rest of the set - Chavez split-ear headstall and braided romal reins, also the green leather-trimmed show pad. I'll hold them until the saddle sells to offer them first to the buyer of the saddleOffered at $3200 + $150 shipping (UPS insured). I want to separate out shipping from any negotiation because it's going to be expensive. I have marked it for 5 days shipment time to ensure it is adequately packed and protected, and against the possibility of storm-caused issues. If you look at my feedback, you'll see I'm really good about shipping times, and I have shipped sidesaddles to Slovakia, I know exactly what it takes to pack up an item of this size and shape. It will arrive both timely and safe. If you're interested, please contact me with questions and let's make sure it's a real fit for you. I really don't want to deal with a return on this. Thanks!
