These Freeze Dried Salmon Fillets are current production and not over-runs. They were manufactured in 2016 by a large military defense contractor. We just purchased the only available lot of these fillets directly from the only Defense Reutilization Office (DRO) Source. Although actual use is always classified on these kinds of products, our information is that these were purchased in the past for the Executive Branch use, not for our troops in the field. That usually means these went to underground bunkers for continuity of government use by strategic military leaders, congressional members and sometimes even White House staff or leadership. As always, we opened several cans to try these out before we offered them to you, and these fillets are amazing: tender, flaky, light, and very tasty, and as fresh as the day they were flash frozen and dehydrated! Preparation: To prepare the salmon, just soak it in lukewarm or cold water for 6-8 hours and cook. We've found that although great with only a 4 hours soak, some pieces may need a little more time to rehydrate completely. We recommend to rehydrate fillets until they look like store-bought pieces. These fillets are perfect for grilling or frying. They also can be cooked in a stews, seafood soups, sandwiches, sauté pan, cooked in the oven, or even broiled. It is completely up to you how you want to prepare them - the possibilities are endless. Once rehydrated, they look just like salmon fillets you would get at your grocer's deli. You can expect 25+ years shelf life as long as the fillets are sealed in the can - and probably as many as 30 to 40 since there is no water or oxygen in the can to spoil them!!! Once opened they will last:
up to 1 year in a Zip Lock bag with refrigeration once opened but not re-hydratedup to 60 days in a zip lock bag without refrigeration once opened, but not re-hydratedup to 5 days in the fridge once they are re-hydrated.
These are perfect for storing and using for many years! You can have great tasting food in seconds with no mess and no waste - and it doesn't matter if the power goes out!! You can open just one can at a time and in 6-8 hours cook one or as many of these as you want however you would cook any other fresh seafood!!! Perfect for camping, boating, traveling, or at the cabin. Remember, consuming raw or undercooked seafood may increase your risk of foodborne illness.Manufactured, Procured, and Canned in the USA
