Hermes Essentielle 16/16.5 Regular Tree, Buffalo Leather - $4295 Hermes Essentielle Saddle. This is considered a 16" by Hermes, but just like a Butet this one runs large, with an actual seat measurement of approximately 16.5.” Padded knee. No blocks. Full buffalo leather, the longest lasting leather available on the market. Measurements: Flap measures approximately 13” from top of stirrup bar where the buckle sits to the bottom of the flap, and approximately 13” in width at the widest point. Hermes considers this a wide tree, though the measurement of 4” between the dots would be the equivalent of a regular tree in most brands. The leather on this saddle is unbelievable… so supple, soft, and smooth. You can see why Hermes retails for $6350 new when you feel this leather. You really have to feel it in person to appreciate what you’re getting at this price point. Integrated panels for a closer feel of the horse and reduced bulk under the rider’s leg. Good condition, I just see some lightening on the seat from a water mark. This saddle features panels with natural latex memory foam, an important distinction from a traditional closed-cell or synthetic foam. Natural latex is a very expensive material to use in panels, and is considered by many the best. Hermes uses natural latex for two principal reasons. First is natural latex's physical property known as 'memory'. Latex memory enables the Hermes panel to mold and conform to a horse's individual conformation while always regaining its original shape and remolds repeatedly to different conformations. This gives the Hermes saddle its characteristic ability to properly fit a variety of different horses. Second is latex's longevity. Natural latex lasts for many years. The structural integrity of natural latex and its ability to maintain its form over time reduces the amount of material required to compose a panel subsequently defining ' close contact' saddle design. This saddle was purchased new by the owner in 2006 (according to Hermes, it was send to Dover new in November 2005), and only used for six years, so it has “low miles.” If you love a Butet because of the narrow twist that allows your leg to drop down and around the horse, I believe this particular Essentielle puts the Butet to shame on that point, because this particular saddle has an even more helpfully slim twist. This saddle is amazing, it really lets you wrap you legs around the horse in a way unlike any other saddle. I dare you to sit in it and not fall in love. Hermes retailed for $6350. Feel the leather you get at that price point… it’s incredible, even the sweat flaps feel totally different in terms of the leather quality and softness than other saddles that retail in the $4k to $5k range new. I’ve had a lot of great saddles come through, but this is without a doubt one of the best. This saddle will be ideal to bring out the best in a rider. Comes with Hermes cover.
