I cannot say whether the reata has been used or not but it is somewhat sticky and still has the original shop tag. I contacted Jay Palm and he was able to confirm that the tag is his, but he could not verify that the reata is a Luis Ortega without seeing it in person. He stated that over half of Ortega's work was not signed as the hondo on this reata has no markings. I know little about these so I can only go with the information I am presented with and cannot guarantee that this reata is an Ortega, but this is exactly how I purchased it from auction. I do not know the length of the reata or how many plaits it has but there is a nine written on the piece of tape at the end of it.
