Description

Conway Corsica DL (Deluxe) trailer tent from 1978 PROJECT. Useable but needs some repairs and a bit of practice to put it up, this was one of the first to be made available in this country. I bought it as a wreck 4 years ago and have spent a fair amount of time and money already. But it still needs work if you have some patience and a little ingenuity. The good bits:- It expands from a 4' x 8' trailer into a 2 double bedroom tent with approx 12' x 8' living area with kitchen. There is a tarpaulin that covers this and a small piece of carpet. In between the bedrooms is a carpeted seating area with table, benches and storage. Unlike a tent you sleep on platforms that are off the ground in bed 'inner tents'. The bedroom platforms have been replaced with 12mm plywood  which I've coated with poly varnish, matresses are 4" thick and have very hard-wearing fabric (cost me £87 last year). I've made six steel spreader plates for the bedroom legs so they don't sink into soft ground. Most of the nut's & bolts have been replaced with stainless, bodywork is repaired and painted blue/grey. Hinges and brackets etc cleaned and painted. Seat cushions are Ok and table is clean and useable. All storage compartment lids are in good condition. All windows have curtains (not original and a different pattern) and new fittings, bedroom compartments are Ok with only one hole in the front 'door' of one. Bedroom zips are OK, front zips are OK but one needs to be re-stitched. The fully functional kitchen is is in a separate unit including a good 2 burner cooker with grill, stainless steel sink with plug. Splashback and work surface with built-in brackets and clamps for 3.9kg butane or propane cylinder (not supplied). I'll include the propane regulator, waste and 10 litre fresh water water containers. I've also installed pipework to connect up a gas fridge (the end of the pipe is a self-sealing connector so you don't have to use it but I'll supply the matching plug). Leakdown test OK on all of this equipment.  New spare wheel & 3 excellent tyres (4 years old). Jockey wheel and spirit level. All lights work including front markers and I've just fitted 2 new metal plugs (£15). Tows really well and is easy to move since I fitted the jockey wheel. It will be supplied with pegs, spare clips for the frame & bedroom suspension, guy ropes, patches of matching canvas, glue and some more waterproofer etc etc... The bad bits:- It's not that easy to put up, the front frame is quite tall and if you are short (like me), it can be a struggle. The canvas is all in one so you have to assemble the front section, later models this is separate and can be unzipped. It got damp 18 months ago and I had to replace the ply bed bases and throw the mattresses away so the replacement ones, though better are slightly thicker which makes it more difficult to stow. Some of the canvas also got damp which I had to wash and treat so there are dark patches though it doesn't smell damp. There are quite a few patches and repairs and at least 2 places that still require some stitching and/or a patch. I'm not going to photograph them all, some are visible in the pictures. It's very unlikely you'll find another canvas, this model only made for a year or 2 and I have already replaced it as the original one got eaten by mice!!  It needs a new cover since the current one does not prevent water getting in and has a new hole where I pushed the trailer into my drive when I last used it (last month), I have used pallet wrap to prevent a repeat of last years damp catastrophe. These can still be bought at approx cost of £70. Just to be clear, this is useable but really should be treated as a  PROJECT! It needs some stitching/patching and is never going to look like new. I have digital copies of old brochures and assembly instructions if you want them. Message me if you have any questions. Collection only from High wycombe, Bucks. You''ll need a vehicle WITH A TOWBAR and a number plate for it. You could possibly put it on a trailer or in a van but I cannot help load!!!. Now the small-print.
