The "Lafayette" design concept is very simple: to build the ultimate super-light high altitude expedition bag, to be used together with the Combi suit or down clothing. The Lafayette is more than a technical mountaineering bag, it's simply beyond any comparison world wide. The ultimate assaults are light and fast in alpine style, meaning climbers with no support from Sherpas, no fixed ropes, and carrying all their gear. This is where the Lafayette shines. The bag is more of a climbing tool than a "normal" sleeping bag and features a "center half zip system". The advantage of a center zip is if you are lying on your side you are not disturbed by the contact of a hard zipper. Lying on your side keeps your heart and lungs away from the cold ground. When you are on your side, your knees can press on the front of the bag, potentially shifting the down. That is why the Lafayette has a knee protection system made out of three smaller and laterally closed compartments with a high down density. To trap a maximum amount of air, warmed by body heat, the insulation under the "center half zip" is a vertically placed Velcro strip with the purpose of creating a barrier to reduce heat loss and "fixing" the inside cylinder. This "fixing" prevents the compression of the down membrane so you avoid cold spots. Normal draft collars alter the shape of a sleeping bag once tightened up. The draft collar is therefore built into the inside cylinder, like the separation wall between the cockpit and passenger cabin of an aircraft, with a cylindrical hole just big enough for your neck. To avoid the possibility of any heat leakage, a semi-elastic adjustment system is placed on the inside. The hood follows the same principle. It's a 3D half moon construction, offering a maximum amount of down insulation to the limit of your head.Comfort Rating: 17° F; Extreme: -14° F
