Used, vintage, collectable 15" Miles City Saddlery Western Saddle.  This saddle is a 73X model and has the numbers 3  43 stamped on the cantle back along with the initials M M.  When I spoke to Miles City Saddlery I found the numbers mean that this was the 3rd saddle of this model built in 1943.  The following is out of the original catalog.  "The 73X was originally designed for Sid Vollin, one of the foremen of the largest horse ranch outfits in the Northwest.  It was commonly called the "Sid Special".  The fork is designed in a manner so that the moment your legs come in contact with it you assume a grip and balance instantaneously which cannot be dislodged except of your own free will, and at the same time ride in perfect ease.  The seat is a marvel of of comfort and the cantle is of proper height to give needed support.  The materials throughout are of the highest grade as well as the workmanship and this saddle is particularly recommended for roping and similar hard work, where steady all day riding is required."This saddle is a medium brown color and has great detailed floral and leaf tooling.  It has a slick hard seat.  Leather conchos with leather strings, leather billet (mouse chews) and leather off billet.Leather covered stirrups.  The gullet measures 6 3/4"-Semi Quarter Horse bars and the rawhide wrapped wood tree is solid.  The underside fleece is worn and depending on the buyers preference can be replaced.  One of the brass rigging plates has a bend in it-see photos to examine. It has a rounded skirt. The tooling on this saddle is what really caught my eye when I bought it .  I was told that the person I bought it from was the second owner and he purchased it from the original owner years before.  The lariat, lasso, is about 28' long and a 3/8" diameter with a metal guard , honda, I believe is what it is called.  The gentlemen I purchased this saddle from said he had it made especially for him for this saddle. This is a collectable Western Working saddle, which can be difficult to find in good condition .  I have ridden in this saddle when I owned a paint quarter horse.  I had no problem with it , even with the bent rigging plate, which could be straightened.  I did not bother as I had this saddle mainly for a display item.  It weighs 39 pounds and the Paso Fino I now own in my "senior" years is not Western Working Horse material.  I am downsizing and would like this saddle to go to someone who will be able to appreciate it and its history.  It has sat for the last few years in my house constantly and I recently took it to the basement for its "annual clean and shine".  I came to the decision that this saddle needs a new home as my husband and I are downsizing to smaller quarters.  Saddle SpecsCantle:  4 1/2"Horn 2"h X 3"wSkirts Round 27 1/2" long and 12" wideStirrups Leather Gullet 6 3/4" Regular/Semi Quarter Horse BarsTree: 15" Wood/Rawide Wrapped (info from Miles City Saddlery)Swells  14"Weight 39 lbsThanks for looking and please email me with any questions, comments, etc.
