Gear Description Dana Designs are the cadillac of backpacks, made for winter camping/lots of gear, big mountain trips, and long expeditions. This is the largest pack they ever made, which is no longer being manufactured (made in Boseman, MT). The older Dana packs are premium quality compared to the newer ones, this pack has Dana's standard lifetime guarentee. This is a one of a kind, very rare pack, these were not made for very long, and this one is in excellent condition. Purchased in 1997, this model was made before K2 purchased the Dana Designs company, NEVER USED in truly excellent condition. A vertical metal bar in the pack comes out of the frame in order to custom fit the curvature of your back, offering the ultimate support, suspension and comfort despite carring a big load. This Bar has never been bent or fitted for a user.

trailspace.com/gear/dana-design/astralplane-overkill "They're the most comfortable packs ever built, and the most dynamic. They'll work just as well twenty days down the trail, or twenty years down the line." "The key lies in ArcFlex's active framing that combines the shapability of aluminum/polyethylene framesheets with the resilience of carbon fiber reinforced fiberglass composites for load control. In using these systems we fit every aspect to your specific shape - backpanel, shoulder harnessing, and hipbelts - so that we can distribute teh forces of the load over the greatest amount of your body's real estate. Thsi provides the greatest in load carrying comfort." "We build other performance features, such as Headspace(TM) (a built-in alcove to accomodate your head when looking forward and upward), HipLids (both the lid/top of the pack and the hip belt can detach from the pack, offering a light, small pack for quick trips away from camp) , retractable bottom (to shrink the pack's capacity for light loads, or to create the space necessary to lash on really bulky stuff instead of putting it inside the sleeping bag compartment), and fail-safe closures."
