The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Backpack, size medium, was recommended to me by the owner of Mount Laguna Sports, Mount Laguna, CA after doing a shakedown of my gear at mile 50 of the Pacific Crest Trail. Mount Laguna Sports is the "real deal" for thru hikers on the PCT, as the trail goes through Mount Laguna, and it is famous for shaking down hikers' packs and outfitting them with the proper gear for the long distance hike that lays before them. Dave, its owner, is a an experienced mountaineer and outfitter, and all of the company's employees have long distance trekking experience. He specifically recommended this pack, and I purchased it, along with several other items he recommended. The backpack is made with waterproof material, is state of the art, and is ultralight. I encountered many thru hikers on the PCT shouldering this pack, and it unquestionably the best backpack I have owned in terms of weight, comfort and durability. The pack is in very good condition, with all straps, buckles, netting, velcro, and pouches intact and functioning. I washed the pack as directed by an employee of Hyperlite Mountain Gear, and it cleaned up nicely for its next trip into the wild. The retail price of this pack new is $340, which is the price I paid. The company's specifications for the pack are as follows:
2.00 lbs | 32.0 oz | 907g (White)
Load capacity: 25 – 40 lbsMaterials:Body: 50D Dyneema®/Poly hybrid white or 150D BlackBottom: Double reinforced 150D Dyneema®/Poly hybridExternal Pockets: MeshVolume:Interior: 3400 cu. in. I carried this reservoir inside the pack (laying it across the top) through for 400 miles, and only filled it with potable water. There is a slot on the pack for the drinking hose.I used both the pack and Hydration Reservoir until I was forced to quit two weeks ago due to injury. The Hydration Reservoir lists on Amazon for $19.95.Hanging from the netting on the pack of the pack are several small, lightweight carabiners (see photo above) that I used on the hike. I will include them as well. Note: I think this is the best ultralight pack on the market. It is top quality gear.
